Ocala Equine Hospital is expanding its advanced diagnostic capabilities with the addition of a high field MRI. The MRI consists of a 1.5 tesla magnet that produces high quality images of the equine limbs. As most people know through human medicine, MRI is the gold standard for the diagnosis of most orthopedic soft tissue injuries. We feel this is also becoming true in equine practice, as we send more horses for MRI studies that reveal lesions that were undiagnosed on radiograph and ultrasound exams.
The Ocala Equine Hospital MRI is now scheduling clinical cases. We will strive to perform this hospital service in a safe, efficient, and cost effective manner, as we do with our surgery caseload. The studies will be supervised and read by Dr. Natasha Werpy, board certified veterinary radiologist. Referring veterinarians will be able to communicate directly with Dr. Werpy for consultation. We are confident this new imaging modality will elevate our abilities to better diagnose, and therefore more successfully treat difficult cases for our clients.
