Diplomate, American College of Veterinary Surgeons has joined our practice as Associate Surgeon. Dr. Lugo is a graduate from Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. After a one year internship at Colorado State University, he completed a residency in Large Animal Surgery at Michigan State University. He spent four years in academia at Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine. From 2006 until the present, Dr. Lugo worked in a racetrack surgical practice at Camarero Racetrack.

His areas of professional interest include orthopedic and soft tissue surgery, minimally-invasive procedures (i.e. laparoscopy, arthroscopy), lameness and sport medicine in both thoroughbred and sport horses. Dr. Lugo’s passion is surfing and he also enjoys other water sports, soccer, jogging and spending time with his wife and two children.

We at Ocala Equine Hospital feel that Dr. Lugo will be a great asset to our veterinary practice in the quest to provide excellent quality care in the
areas of surgery and lameness diagnosis.

She uses a full mouth speculum and power floats, which allows her to perform a comprehensive exam of the entire mouth and address each tooth as needed. We are aware that some of you have concerns with the use of power equipment in dentistry. However, with the advances that have been made in the equipment itself, along with the use of proper sedation, the procedure can be done safely when performed by a knowledgeable and experienced person.

It is our hope that you will consider calling Dr. Roberts for your horse’s next oral exam and dental procedure and that she will have an opportunity to meet you in person.
